    Mud Stuff Roof Console

Mud UK released a roof console last Friday for Defenders. Looks neat, I am tempted to get one, but not sure. Must do the headlining first .

I guess it is a compromise between plasticky, with a potential to dismantle on corrugated roads and a more rigid design running the risk of a craniectomy in the event of a crash or roll over.

Not sure I'm convinced by the arguments on either side.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Outback consol

    Hi Jeff.
I haven't seen the Mud unit before but agree it looks a little plasticky. I have fitted an Outback brand overhead consol to my Defender and am really happy with it. Australian made too. And when you factor postage its cheaper than the Mud unit.

I had an Outback overhead console for years in my Nissan Patrols and found it to be great. The only issue I ever noticed has been sorted in the newer ones by fitting LED lights for the map lights. (The earlier ones used normal bulbs and the heat distorted the plastic lens after a few years). It was "plasticky" too, but worked well and was too useful to worry about it looking plasticky.

I really like the look of the Mud UK one. I like the fact it looks like you re-use the standard sun visors without cutting them short, something I believe you have to do when fitting an Outback console or a Britmart one. This is the main reason I haven't bought one.

It looks to me like the Mud UK console will need some elastic net over the openings, or those maps and stuff will be landing everywhere I suspect. My Puma is pretty "plasticky" inside, (at least compared to my Series 2a daily driver), so the Mud UK one would be okay. Maybe a group buy to save on postage?

Yeah it's not for me.. I have visions of everything falling out onto my head at the first decent hill climb...

I was half thinking about one of these.. they just seem too cheap.. Roof Consoles - Defender Consoles

    Re: Mud Stuff Roof Console

Its very similar to what's in a Disco I (93-99). I wonder if one of those, from a breaker, would fit?

Wish someone would make something similar for deefers with a sun roof.

I know most of the weight is supported by the sun visor anchor points but it look like they alos pin it to the roof lining which doesn't seem like a real flash idea to me.

I have a Rono supplied out of the Sunshine coast and it has been great..... fiberglass covered in grey Frontrunner material...bit more agricultural but that suits the Defender

I was wanting something like the D2 had and that looks similar, but a little deeper. But on thinking about it I would also like to add speakers and a few other items as I have trouble hearing the speakers aimed at my knees and putting everything in the centre console means i what you want is usually at the bottom.

If people think the MUD Roof Console is plasticky, what do they think of the Defender dash? I find it very plasticky, only slightly less than a Series 3. The Series 1, 2 and 2A are the only ones that I find not too plasticky.

    Jeff
