Thread: Dealer service or Specialist

Hi, I own a MY11 2.4 110Puma, and was hoping for some advice on whether or not to stick with my current dealer or move on to a Land Rover specialist. I have 9 months warranty left.
The car has a colourful history. In the first 3 weeks the Teflon pad on one of the selector forks came adrift and jammed the gearbox in 1st, (fix took 2 weeks ), next was the usual air con problem of outlet air drifting to ambient temp., (3 repairs, now fixed), traction control operating on straight, dry, paved roads, (never fixed, they couldn’t find cause, but it just faded away), fuel tank breather tube malfunctions (2).
One of the main problems is that they often create new problems when fixing others, such as damaging the indicator cancellation when fixing the A/C, and the latest batch of disasters which occurred as a result of the 40K service. Firstly there was a clicking noise from the clutch when idling, this resulted in a new clutch, and new transfer case intermediate shaft o’rings and interbox seals due to an oil leak which I never knew I had. I get the car back and it sounds wrong!, I checked and the airfilter box lid wasn’t attached properly, then I find the car is leaking oil on the road and on top of this sounds like the engine is about to drop it’s guts at 2000rpm!. So I take it back and after removing and reinstalling the transfer case twice and actually attaching the exhaust system (and fixing the fuel tank breather, the radio and the blinker cancellation), the car seemed OK. No oil leaks, other things fixed, but you know what, it’s not the same car, it doesn’t feel right. There’s strange harmonics in the cabin, don’t know if it’s the tyres, but sometimes it sounds like a dry bearing.
So do I ditch these guys before they destroy my lovely Land Rover, I mean they do seem willing to fix problems, I’m just worried they don’t quite Know how, or their quality control sucks.
Should I go to a LandRover specialist likes Coopers and get a report to present to the dealership? After all, if some of these problems carry on past the warranty period they should still be bound to fix them. Or should I just ditch them altogether and start again with coopers or one of the mobile guys who comes to your place who I’ve read about here and has good reports?
Any advice appreciated and sorry about the long post, I’m at my wits end here.

Mechanic2you is a member here and he did my 20,000 km service using genuine parts and recommended lubricants. The service was done at my home and Peter was very helpful with advice for setting up my truck.

Peter also gave me a list of items that would be warranty repair issues for me to address with a dealer.

i think I've heard about this guy, or perhaps someone very similar, I believe he was the service manager at Garthans and his name was Rupert.
