differences between pre 98 and post 98 crossmembers ?

    Hi,

Because I want to fix some rust I have in the front face of the rear crossmember (the side facing the fuel tank) I though it was a good opportunity to install a 2" receiver hitch.

So, there are basically two models.... pre 98 and post 98. My chassis is from 1989. What is the difference between crossmembers, apart from a few holes ?

BTW, can I swap my fuel tank by a td5 tank ?

    Thank you,

    Carlos

The main difference is a large recess for the trailer electrics...

IIRC - The actual dimensions should be the same, grafting a TD5 cross member onto an '89 chassis, shouldn't be an issue.

My brother has just done it

Put a TD5 rear cross member on a 1998 Defender.
