    Puma 2.2 EGR valve

So out of interest and disgust at Land Rover dropping the Defender I was looking at other options - quite like the Ford Ranger - which by chance uses the same engine as the 2.2 Puma defender.

There were a couple of reviews that pointed out issues with high kilometer Rangers ie > 100,000'ks where the new water cooled EGR has failed internally and lost coolant causing an engine melt down. Interestingly there were no EGR failures as we have previously seen on the 2.4.

SO I guess that means the new 2.2 water cooled EGR valve will need to be replaced at 100k intervals just as a precaution. Whereas perhaps the older 2.4 failed after 25-60,00ks anyway. What's the bet the new EGR is 5 times the price of the 2.4 one! They'll get their money out of you somehow.

If you get the 2.2 Ranger you're an idiot, that is all. If they bothered to put the 3.2 in Defender they might actually sell some.

    He hasn't got it yet

But in all seriousness I think anyone would be mad to get the small engine, the 3.2 goes like the clappers, and will hold its value so much better.

Brother in laws Ranger had a turbo failure... guess how long in took to get a replacement... (There's something to be said for the simplicity of a 300tdi.. turbo failure - fixed in a day, head gone soft - new Turner upgrade here in 48hrs, fuel pump - simple fix...)
