Thread: Def90: Which winch Ramsey 8.5e vs Runva 9500lb

All I can say is I have had a Ramsey REP 8000 for more than 20 years and 3 different vehicles and apart from replacing the solenoid box with a new one a few years back it has been perfect. I don't know where the current Ramseys are made but mine was made in the USA.

Don't know anything about either of those winches but I'll offer the two following observations.

1. More pulling power often means the same size motor with lower gearing.

2. Dual batteries aren't necessary to run a winch, in fact a lot of dual battery installs aren't fit for this purpose at all (ie 2nd battery is a deep cycle). A large capacityhigh quality AGM main battery is a good option for winching.

Made in USA still. Definitely 1 batt. Hoping 8500lb is big enough to pull out heavy cruisers and nissans.

Liking it!!! 8500 would be plenty for the 90.

To be honest, its the only use my winch has seen in 3 years as well...

The problem with a 90 is usually your own weight (or lack thereof!) which means you get dragged - locked wheels, brakes, chocks and all - toward the stricken Japanese lump!

Not too bad if you can tie your own rear recovery points to a tree to anchor yourself down though...
