    Replacing front suspension bushes

I've received my Superpro bushes, and would like to fit them this weekend. Having never done this before, I have no idea what I'm in for, but I believe at least some, if not all, require a press to remove old and install new. I'm interested in learning how to do most maintenance tasks myself, so I'm happy to pay, but only if I can assist or preferably be supervised. Blknight is off the hook, given his current NT junket!

Anyone able to shed some light , and perhaps even some help?! Happy to bring beer or any other type of payment!

I have done it buy using bolt, nut, some really thick washers( or some plate) and a socket with the same diamerter as the hole as a die.

I have only installed bushes like this may be hard to remove bushes as they will have rusted in there. A bit of heat from map gas may help get them moving? i doubt it though.

I'm sure some else will have better way of doing it.

If you're planning to do more work yourself, keep an eye out for a small workshop press from Supercheap etc. I think I paid $80 (on special) for mine and its paid for itself many times over.

Before I got the press I did quite a few bushes on different vehicles with a combination of butchery, vice, sockets, large hammers, cold chisels, gas torches etc.
It can be done but a small press makes it sooooo much easier.

Make sure when you put it back together that the large bolts through bushes are done up TIGHT. If you're doing it on your back under the car you need to have: clenched cheeks (both ends), bulging neck veins, and (since you're in QLD) pouring sweat. If not, they will be loose the next time you give it a decent workout.

You could probably remove the old metal cased bushes using a hacksaw. The Superpro bushes can be fitted with a bench vice and a couple of blocks of wood or steel on one side to allow the bush to push through.

Make sure you use plenty of silicone grease, might even pay to get an extra tube in case the little packets they supply isn't enough.

If you can leave it a week or two, I have a 20 ton press here but it is in pieces from when I moved house. I haven't sorted a spot to put it yet but should have everything sorted soon.

I just had a look on ebay and you can get 12 ton presses for around $150 plus shipping.

Like I said if you can wait a bit, I should have mine set up soon, it makes the job a lot easier.

I did mine a few weeks ago , a little uncomfortable without a hoist , but easily doable.
I figured that the money I would have spent paying someone else was better spent on a press .
Now I have new superpro bushes and a 30t workshop press

    Thumbs up

A huge thanks to jboot51 for giving me a hand today! Genuine top fella. without his help, I would have really struggled, and probably still not managed to fit them.

    Nice one.

What technique was used? A press, or something more fun?

jboot51 brought his press around, which certainly made the job easier. In fact, I can't see any other way we could have done it, particularly getting the old bushes out.
