Puma 2.2 Water Temp & Ultra Gauge

    Hi guys n gals!

    Recently "upgraded" to a my13 from a my12.

The My12 had very stable water temps according to Ultra Gauge, averaged 88 degrees and peaked at 94 degrees in the middle of summer at 110kph towing.

The My13 seems to change temps much quicker, fluctuates from 88-95 very quickly and have seen temps as high as 98 degrees (at which point my Ultra Gauge sounds an alarm) with ambient temps of 16 degrees....

Now, I know this is within safe limits, but I am intrigued by the differences between the two trucks.

The only other difference I can see is with the EGR readings. The My12 would show 20%egr activation all the time, and would only increase on trailing throttle. The My13 shows EGR at idle around 40% some of the time and anywhere from 0-70% under normal driving.

So would anyone else in the land of Puma/Ultraguage (or any odb/monitoring device) have numbers similar to either of my trucks? If you have a monitoring device, I would love to see what numbers other 2.2 owners are getting.

I am concerned that if I am reaching 98 degrees with no load in the middle of winter, how will it be come the warmer months when I am pulling the camper trailer?

My 2012 runs pretty consistently at 92-94. My Tdis run coolant temps around 85-87 so it seems pretty hot me.

Just for comparison my 2010 with BAS map runs a pretty constant 88 when cruising.

I've never had it over 91 since fitting the Ultra Gauge a few months ago.

    Cheers,

I will add to the comparisons :-) My 2009 MY10 with an alive remap, runs at around 86 normal driving, climbs to 90 on the 7k road up to my house, it is 600m above sea level and don't get out of 3rd gear very often.

on my sep 2012 build one

its usually 88-90. Goes up to 96 when driving in high gear at lower speeds (like 60-70kph in 6th or when engine load is higher up)

Goes down to 88-89 when I get the revs up higher.

However oddly enough when I was out 4wding it would go down to 80 as i crawled around... then again it might have been cold there but i would think 80 is too low??

Pretty sure mine (09 110, BAS, intercooler) gets down that low. I've seen 94 while towing ~ 1T up the Hume.

Normally sits on ~ 88, loading a high gear seems to build more heat than a lower gear and higher revs - YMMV.

Similar setup in mine and I've noticed the same (although nothing new for a modern diesel) -

    1. It likes higher revs to run cooler (plus better fuel consumption)
    2. 6th gear is really only for cruising at speed. If you put your foot down in 6th below 80km/h the temp hikes pretty quickly...

    Cheers,

    Lou

hmm... I'll try and keep the revs up more. I think I'm keeping it down low too much.. sometimes even going at 60kph in 6th.
