 post number 5 i have photos of a 135,000km 2.4 tdci puma engine, number 1 piston and bore. 
looks like a piston cooling jet failure, the new / revised cooling jets i have got for this engine are totally different design, these were fitted to all 9A VIN onwards engines due to some issues with the early design jets latching into a no flow condition on cold start up/ high oil pressure/ flow, preventing adequate lube to the bore and piston skirt.
i'll try and take some pics of the old jets vs the new ones shortly.
