I wondered how LR got hold of those original style MTRs, seeing that they're been susperceded for quite some time now.
Hi all,
Just trying to get my head around the MTRs on our MY13 90 LE with the sawtooth (16") rims. Am I right in understanding that these are not the local brand MTR + Kevlar types but rather the older "Euro" MTRs?
Thanks

It looks like they are still made in/for Europe (see Goodyear Tires in the EU). Ours, which came with the 90, are stamped "made in Germany". The US has them too but listed as "Military Spec" and cost a small fortune , I can't confirm the specs are 100% the same.
On the bright side the older MTRs were pretty popular, we've certainly got no complaints so far ... but I'm still not 100% sure they are the same!
They are the older ones.. not the same as you can buy in the shops now and they are the same as the ones I got on my 2011 model. Loved the tyres - in fact have only just replaced them yesterday with Mickey T's but only because I could not find the same as what was on the car.
I got excellent wear out of them.. 74,000kms and I could have easily have gotten another 5,000 - 10,000kms out of them but had to replace in preparation for a outback trip. I'm bad and never rotated them (the spare is still untouched) and did a fair amount of off road work with them so would have definitely used the same tyre if I was able.
They are no "olders". Kevlars are suppossed to be an upgrade (that's not true when in real off road except when rocks arrive). Here in Colombia Rubicon“s still are coming with the old ones. In the real world, the old ones make circles around the Kevlars.... have been out in the dirt with both Nissan and Land Rover it's the same thing.,....
Thanks Sue + carlos.
Yeah they seem pretty good so far but the gotcha appears to be getting your hands on them here in Aus. What prompted me is I'm looking to get a second spare to take on a an up coming trip... at least I only need one.
Ask LR if they can supply them - they stocked the 19" MTR yet they couldn't be bought from anywhere else in Oz.

Good tip Graeme, thanks.
...or ask Sue if you can buy her old spare (the untouched one)...Gold Coast to Victoria will be a bit of postage though!!!
