    2.2 Defender Interesting Warranty Claim

Just thought I'd ask if others had had this warranty issue with their new 2.2 Defenders.

I was installing the wiring for my winch, when I saw that the high pressure induction hose, from the turbo compressor to the intercooler(Right hand side in engine bay) had been rubbing on the alternator pulley.

At first glance it was miles away, but looking further back, this hose had metal spiral reinforcing on certain corners. The problem ended up being the shaft for the steering wheel! Where the universal joins on the steering wheel shaft, there is a pinch-bolt. This pinch-bolt, when turning, engaged into the metal spiral reinforcing, and acted like a thread and push the hose into the alternator pulley!

JT Fosseys in Tamworth, looked at it, and agreed straight away! Fixed it without question!

Interestingly, Land Rover have superseded the original part for a completely new designed hose!

Thought if others haven’t yet found a problem, it might be worth a look as if this hose splits, you’ll loose your boost! With this engine, you might automatically go into limp home mode! A bit annoying if you are in the middle of nowhere!

You should have got a recall notice for this. Check the radiator hoses as well. Mine rubbed through and overheated.

I haven't received any notification, this is not the issue found in 2012 units where the induction hose, running from the inter cooler to the throttle body, rubbed a hole on the left wheel arch! This is on the right side before the inter cooler!

I haven't received a recall on my 2012 either. Interested to know more about it.

Really useful post Dave. Gonna check this out on mine.

This has had a mention here before didn't it http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130...urbo-hose.html?

Took ours in for something else and asked about it at the time, the service guy at Melbourne City LR said they'd check it out but not all Puma's are effected, they seemed well aware of it and as it turned out we weren't (MY13 90 LE). I'm not sure why some are not impacted and some are, there doesn't seem to be a pattern to it.

Edit: Just spotted inken_dave's post above, maybe this is something new!

This is an old post, but thought Puma owners might appreciate the update! Drove to Bulahdelah NSW this weekend for a weekend of diving and fishing. Anyway came back from Tea Gardens, 10 min from our friends place the engine check light comes on and the engine goes into "limp home mode".

I get it back and know exactly what it is. The alternator has worn a hole through the induction(hose between turbo and intercooler) hose AGAIN!

Since I started this post, I had noticed wear when I first took delivery, and had it fixed under warranty! Now the exact thing has happened, even with the updated hose!

The good news, was the accommodating Land Rover roadside assist! The 110 trucked back to our home town, hire car provided. All done within the next day.

The only really annoying aspect was the beautiful day I wasted not being in the water!
