Local source for fuel cooler guard

Heading up to corner country in less than 2 weeks and realised I haven't got around to fitting a guard on the fuel cooler, it's been on the to-do list but a death in the family put everything on hold. Not keen to head into the gibbers without protecting this bit. Anyone know where I can get one in Aus, as I can't afford to wait for international shipping.

Easiest and IMHO the best thing for the fuel cooler/warmer is to get rid of it altogether. Despensed of mine about 4 years ago. No more fuel lines and coolant lines in danger of getting wiped off. I also replaced those hard plastic fuel lines with rubber fuel hose. Easy to repair if needed.

Are we talking about a Td5 fuel cooler here?
If so I've never heard of the need for a guard and considering it's location I can't see the need for one.

Astonishing price for a small bit of bent sheet metal, I might have to fabricate something myself. I could not live with myself if I paid that much for one of these.
It's a Puma model. Interesting thought to do away with the fuel cooler- might have to look into that a bit, definitely not going to have time to do the necessary plumbing before heading away on this trip though. Research on that might involve another thread at a future date.

You could easily land one from O/S in less than two weeks.

Bit hit and miss though, just bought locker & axles & CVs & flanges from Ashcrofts, 5 separate orders and each was at my door within 5 days of ordering, then bought some seals and stuff from Paddocks and it took 3 weeks to leave their warehouse.
I think I'll make a temporary guard and then look into removing the cooler and re-routing the hoses to a safer location.

I have seen numerous posts across several forums about the need to fit a fuel cooler guard. Also lots of advertising by people wanting to sell them. But not one post reporting damage without one. May be I haven't been looking hard enough!

That is one of those disturbing Australian prices...

Devon 4x4 (who makes them) sells them for $58.23 (at today's exchange rate) and $24 odd for P&P to Australia on regular courier (4 working days if you pay a bit more).

    Browse

$228 vs $82.25 odd is hard to justify with any of the economics/market share/ customer base etc arguments...

KarlB - I for one don't want to be the first bloke to report it damaged!!!

    Cheers,

    Lou

First time offroad in low scrub, coolant line wiped off. A few choise words followed, then removal of offending gadget. I can't see the point of cooling/warming the return diesel to 80 degrees celcius with coolant then returning it to the tank (no snow where I live). An air cooler (if anything) would be of more use.
