Exclamation So the 90 broke down again, with a mystery!

Okay, Ill start from the top.

go to take the 90 to work on Thursday. . starts, reverses out the driveway. . go to drive away and she dies out, no power and stutters, I pull back into the driveway rev the engine, each time it gets near boost it dies.

So I think, well Intercooler hose is probably come off, Ill call roadside assist (well in warranty still)
guy comes out, says all your hoses are on, we will tow it to your Dealer. .

car gets towed to dealer, the find a hole rubbed through on one of the intercooler pipes which confirmed my theory (or so I thought) so they carry out a bulletin repair (aparently this is a known issue?)

they take it for a test drive, same thing,it dies out on them. .

the check the diesel filter and its FULL! of sand :|

drain the tank, apparently got an icecream container full of sand out of my diesel tank

so I have had a loaner car (freelander) since Thursday afternoon while they work on it. .

any ideas how sand could possible get in there? all I can think of is someone has to have put it in there :| but my cap is always locked. .

car hasn't been down the beach since Easter weekend and that was double Island so flat as it gets, no ruts and I drove to the camp site and home :S

So add some more info for people

    its a 2012 puma 90
gets used off road regularly (why I got it)
    had its service 3000Km's ago
had a huge breakdown with a big kerfuffle back in January (about 5-6000kms ago) (thread on here about it, basicly got a whole new injection system including pump, filters and lines)
my fuel cap is always locked.

anyone have ideas? dealer said all fuel lines hoses pipes whatnot were all on and sealed fine. . .

dealer is flushing the tank, replacing filter and flushing the lines and we will see if that gets the car going again (hopefully it hasn't done any more damage than that!)

its not being done as a warranty job either. . so any ideas on what could have happened would be great!

2nd the motion on ex partner destroying car. Either that or you ran over a female black cat and her 6 kittens!
Seriously though besides the breather pipe is the main fill pipe exposed in the rear wheel well on the 90 like the 110? If so maybe there is a hole or loose fitting at the top of that where you cannot see but would allow any sand sprayed up there into the tank.

In via dirty jerry can or dodgey pump station perhaps? Sounds like a real mystery!

Sand is unlikely to ever make it past a fuel filter right? Not so bad if the fuel filter is the only casualty.

Hope you figure it out. Perhaps the colour of the sand holds some clues? :insertpopcornemoticon:

    Sand in tank

Hi Leroy , I can't see you picking up that much sand from a Servo , not only you but any one else buying that fuel would also be in the same position (off the road) as for it getting in from just driving on sand I'm sure if it was a problem , other 90 owners would also experienced it . If someone has put it there Mate that's just not funny . I hope you get it sorted soon , jimr1 !!..

I do have an Ex Girlfriend, but the cap is always locked and she isn't smart enough to even think of that (I don't think. . . .)

they showed me the sand, its pretty fine stuff. .

all points to someone putting it in my tank but my cap is always locked :|

Im hopeful it hasn't got past the filter, but the dealer isn't so positive, I told them I think anything past the filter should be a warranty claim as nothing should get past the filter. . apparently that's not how it works so i just hope it hasn't gone past the filter!

Do you habitually has your fuel tank " no where" near empty?
Is your fuel tank always low at the time of this incident?

The sand seem to have sucked up and cause the problem with low fuel. So how did the sand get into the tank? Accidentally??

So who has access to the keys when it's always locked. The detective will have a big ??? mark. Do not have to consult Shilock Holmes to deduct the answer.
