    Can I get this fixed by LR before Monday

    Well it happened to our deefer too!

    The common problem mentioned in these threads 2.2 Defender Interesting Warranty Claim & http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130...urbo-hose.html regarding the rubbing though the intercooler hose.

    Now my wife is in Sydney from Melbourne visiting family and I am overseas at 2.30am and she calls to let me know that the car is making a different sound

    She describes it as a hissing sound that get louder as the engine works more like at highway speed. Lurking on this forum I had my suspisions so I let her know where to look and low and behold there is a hole in the spiral bound turbo-intercooler hose where it has been rubbing on the pulley.

    Now my wife needs to be back in Melbourne Monday night and is/was driving Monday. Any suggestions on how to get this fixed under warranty beofre then. Is there anyone in Sydney that can do it today as it seem the service centres are closed on the weekends

    Want to have my ducks in a row before calling LR Assist or the LR dealer direct

    Appreciate any help

    PS the car has 26, 500km and was serviced 6000km back. Surely initial wear on the hose was evident then and there is a bulletin - just thinking out loud.

    Give LR Assist a call and tell them the situation and that you need to be in Melbourne for Monday, this may help otherwise ring around some dealers in Sydney they may have a spare hose available and a mechanic on site, if not even if she can purchase the hose ( if it is under warranty you think that they would give it to your wife) then call NRMA or a mobile mechanic to install.

    Unfortunately when mine broke in Roma, they would not send the part and LR Assist basically said the work had to be done by a Land Rover Dealer. Even though there was a Ford dealer in Roma, they put us up for 2 nights and flat bedded the 110 and Camper trailer 500KM back to the Land Rover dealer in Brisbane.

    So apart from buying a hose and paying someone to fit it, you will be at the mercy of LR Assist.

    I did find them easy to deal with and their communication was good, but they wouldn't budge on sending the part. I luckily wasn't in a hurry and had another week off work.

    As a temporary measure wrap the hose in "rescue tape" and it will keep you going.

    I tried the wrapping the hose, but as I was towing a trailer it blew again.
    I ended up putting a steel sleeve in it and a couple of hose clamps to hold it in place, worked for months like that.

    It would not have been with Rescue Tape - it is specifically designed for that type of damage.

    Tried the Rescue tape twice with mine, and it helped, but still had the squealing and lack of power.

    I would have tried a can if we could have got one the correct size.

    The first repair was only the rub through the pipe, the second repair the next day it had torn much further, and if we could have fixed it the first time the way we did the second time, it might have held.

    An update. Thanks to everyone who responded and it seems all too hard to get it done right over the weekend so it should be fixed Monday (hopefully).

    The wife had noticed a sound a couple of days back but then thought she was hearing things and didn't investigate further. It was only a highway drive around sutherland this morning that she observed a definate problem and called me. She found the hole that I thought it was and then on the way home (10km) the engine light came on and she stopped immediately and called land rover assist straight away.

    She then limped home (5km) and the tow truck will pick it up Monday morning (the first and hopefully the last ride).

    Land rover assist was helpful although they were more than happy for my wife to get the car home and not tow it straight away and store it for the weekend. That being said my wife was not keen to sit on the side of the road with a 2 year old daughter waiting either.

    So we will see what happens Monday. Hopefully they install the third version of the apparent fix with the associated bracket.

    Now I have a further question that someone may want to answer. The turbo is predominately positive pressure but does it ever run into vacuum and possibly suck contaminants, rubber hose pieces, dirt etc into the intercooler and/or engine bypassing the air filter? Would this be significant or a cause for concern as it was a slow leak that got worse over two to three days before being picked up by my wife/ECM?

    Also this issue may explain another phenomenon that my wife discussed a few months ago. After completing a U-turn to the right she did notice on occasion a reluctance to straighten. This only became evident after the service 6000km ago and was intermittent. My guess is that this was the turbo hose steel spring catching on the steering shaft which then leads me to think the dealer may have already replaced the hose in the last service and it lasted a grand total of 6000km of highway, 100km of towing and some 300km of 4x4 work - Not very long!
