One might also mention the fact britpart had a contract with the UK MOD to supply parts to maintain the Land Rover and Bedford fleets.
Slightly less well known is the fact the contract was terminated early due to the amount of shoddy parts being supplied.
That would explain why there was a handful of sellers on eBay UK selling off LR parts with MOD numbers on them. I bought an oil pressure sender for my D1 from one of them which didn't even survive being installed (hadn't even got as far as doing it all the way up).

**itpart only outsource the parts and don't (as far as I know) make anything.
I've had some parts that are OK, rubber parts decompose before you fit them, door locks fail after weeks, brake linings I returned and got locally produced ones instead. But, depending on who they source parts from, some stuff is OK.
The blue cardboard boxes are well made, it's the contents that vary considerably

Bearmach seems to be much the same, outsourced parts from the cheapest supplier. Stick a Bearmach sticker on the box and make a healthy profit. But saying that, I got a Timken bearing with a Bearmach sticker on the box earlier in the year, price was reasonable.

The biggest risk is if you buy on-line or over the phone.
If you can personally shop you can make a decision on what you see before parting with the folding stuff.

Nor the delays. Nor the cost involved in returning parts to suppliers to have them looked at or exhanged. Every time I've had to return something it's been at my cost, and for some parts being up to $20 a throw for postage it's just not worth it. These days if a supplier can't offer something in another brand, I find another supplier.

    Britpart tensioner.

My tensioner pulley bearing failed on my Td5. I ordered a new one from paddocks UK. And got a serpentine belt and thermostat at the same time. all very reasonable prices.
When they arrived they were britpart. I had heard that there stuff was 'questionable' but fitted anyway. The belt would not fit. Nowhere near the right size compared to the original and I checked part number for AC compatibility. The tensioner lasted three days before the tension spring snapped and buggered the new $55 Repco belt and I'm yet to fit the thermostat.
Paddocks where very good and offered to exchange the bits but the cost of postage was more than the hassle was worth.
I did take the pulley off and fitted to the old tensioner though and that's all good,
I will NEVER buy britpart again.

    Cheers
    Nino

I've had pretty good luck with Bearmach, most of their stuff I've used is OE quality, eg the timing belt kits use Dayco belts, Ina tensioner pulley bearings and their Tdi crank pulley is miles better than the genuine Land Rover one.
I have had a welsch plug fall out of the Bearmach vacuum pump though, haven't taken that up with the importer yet.....

Have you tried land-rover-parts-shop.com? I ordered a heap of bits through them and I had the choice of genuine or OEM in almost all instances. I think it's allmakes' retail web shop - great prices and nothing gone wrong with the bits.

My local parts dealer does a lot of Britpart and I have to say that the rear indicators I replaced around Christmas are looking a lot less amber 8 months later! Other Britpart stuff has been ok, but the Dayco fan belt squeals like a pig for the first 10-15 mins! I have a TD5 90.

    Hi Forumites,
I bought some Britpart lights, the indicators and sidelights. how they managed to get the connection on the brakes light and sidelight in the rear light the wrong way round I don't know but they did, with the sidelight on the brake light was on.........., one of the indicator lights has also never worked properly, won't be buying them again........
