Three cheers for Justin, one of the nicest blokes around !
Can I just say that this forum and it's members rock! While I was on a recent trip I had a problem with the EGR which eventually sent the car into limp mode while in Halls Creek (could it really have chosen a worse time to do it!) which for meant that I was likely to be stranded in the middle of nowhere by myself and missing out on a trip that I had been planning for near on a year.
First though I had to diagnose what the actual problem was.. within 5 minutes of me starting a thread here I had not only the correct answer but also a video of the offending noise to back it up! My friends couldn't believe it!
I approached all three mechanics in Hall Creek with the first two (Toyota dealer and Baileys) refusing to touch the car on the basis it was a Land Rover.. the third and last mechanic (John Fiztgerald) agreed to look at the car - but only because JustinC - a well known member of this forum - took time out of his busy schedule to talk him through the procedure to get the EGR working again getting me on the road! Justin spent a good part of his working day helping me and for that I'll always be thankful. Thank you Justin, if it wasn't for you I would never had finished my trip and could have been left in a nasty situation stranded in the middle of nowhere.
I've since returned home and have had the EGR replaced with a 'modified' version that is not supposed to behave as the original one did.. although it is chirping softly when I turn the car off now they assure me that is normal for the modified EGR.
Thank you again!

Three cheers for Justin, one of the nicest blokes around !

Awesome effort Justin. Looking after the big Defender family
i always wonder how many calls Justin must received....i have done it myself....and to think is needs to run his business as well
Justin gets my vote aulroian of the year.at the next national meet...is aulroian a word
I will second that he is miles away from me but he helps me when he can usually for no gain. Thank you Justin
Goodness Sue! thankyou
I am really glad that all worked out, and that John was able to fix it for you so you could keep going. It is really what this forum is about - a community spirit and helping those that may need it, especially when the alternative was to be so disappointing, IE a tilt tray home.
Hope the rest of the trip was enjoyable?

It is people like JC that make the defender experience " The Defender Experience"
Well done JC
The rest of the trip was awesome.. I did the Canning Stock Route, the Gunbarrel Hwy, Uluru, the Boggy Hole track and the Simpson desert (staying in Birdsville for the races) before coming home.. and I wouldn't have been able to do any of it without your help!
Thank you again..

This "I don't do Land Rovers" from some mechanics ****s me to tears. It's not like looking into a LR engine bay is like looking into an abyss... It's pretty much par for the course with any other engine of similar era from any other manufacturer.
FWIW quite a few country Toyota dealers work on all makes, one in particular did my swivel bearings with none of this LR drivel and actually did a better job than most before and charged a reasonable price.
