Thread: Chinese diff locks

Sad thing is that maybe they are the "OEM" for ARB, jejejeje....

They may well be a quality product...

BUT I wouldn't put a cheap rip-off product anywhere critical in my driveline. Diffs are pretty critical. And it may not be the diff that catastophically fails, if this thing seizes in the locked position, it'll more than likely be somewhere else along the drivetrain that suffers-centre diff, drive flanges, axles, uni joints, CVs...


Carlos I understand ARB manufacture their airlockers in Melbourne, though the videos showing so are a few years old now.

I would say the quality is not country-dependent, while the price might reflect the quality

if the Chinese charge you as much as ARB does, they are very likely to produce a better product...(or copy...

If these are the same as the ones that came out a while back, then Nissota owners have been running them successfully for a while.

HOWEVER, as stated, there is no way I would fit one to a vehicle going to remote areas, however would happily fit one to a weekend offroader or farm vehicle.

I'm pretty sure if you do a youtube search you will find a comparison between the ARB product and the crappy chinese one.

Personally I'd wack an ashcroft in your pumpkin. No air leaks and engage pretty quick.
I landed mine for around $800 but that was at an exchange rate of .65

The problem I'm facing is do I put $2800+ worth of lockers in a $3000 vehicle? it seems a tad over the top.

That's a valid concern of diff's jamming if something comes loose inside, but I guess if you pull them down before and check them over before you fit them, you should be REASONABLY safe.

I've seen that video, but I've also seen posts stating it's supposedly a bit rigged. The diff they used had unfinished spider wheels, which if was fitted would howl like you crazy! So, I don't believe they were proper production versions. Plus the video was put on youtube over 4 years ago now. It was also able to sustain over 6000lb/ft of pressure though, which is still pretty good!

As I said earlier, they're going in a very budget landy, so it would be a bit pointless fitting ARBs, it's almost a bit silly spending $1000 on the chinese versions! lol

I'm just curious if anyone has tried them and/or has a good source to purchase them from?

I have one and I know of others who have them and none of them have been a problem
