    Td5 Injector Harness Replacing -Questions

    Hi all,

    As oil is reaching the seat box in which my ECU is housed its time to replace injector harness.

    I have a few questions,

    Should the loom need replacing once the new sealed harness is fitted?

    Should i be looking to silicone (what grade) or appoxy?

    Are there any tips or tricks or destructions for undertaking this job?

    Any help, advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated

    Harness Replacement.

    Hi Bruce, whilst certainly not an expert on car engines, I did replace my harness in my 2003 Def.90 a few months ago.
    You don't need to replace whole loom, very expensive. The oil will continue to leak for a while but will dry up. Keep cleaning the ECU.
    Change the injector harness and the gasket at the same time. Both are cheap.
    There are lots of ideas regarding sealing of plug etc. All are mentioned in varoius threads on this forum. I sealed the main plug where the wires enter and also the injector plugs with Silastic .Seems to work well.
    Make sure you have the correct gasket ,the one with the big D at the firewall end.
    Maybe put a line of silicone around the D but no need anywhere else on the gasket.
    Take out all the rocker cover bolts and washers prior to removing so none of them ends up falling into the engine.
    The new gasket will be held in place by the rocker cover.
    There are a number of tutorials on youTube but the one I liked was
    "Td5 Injector Loom Replacement Land Rover Technical Archive-LR4X4 "
    I knew what it would look like when I opened it up an that gave me confidence.
    Take your time 30 mins. or so.
    Other members may want to comment with more instructions.

    Finaly got the parts in the post, going to give it a crack over the next few weeks..

    for the life of me i cant find much info on the forums as suggested.

    i just want to be sure im sealing it all properly and should and how to give the loom the best clean.

    and i guess any other tips and tricks for the job?

    Its all pretty straightforward.
    Couple of things I found.
    Trim a little off the end of the tin oil holder if you find it difficult to replace the rocker cover if it fouls. I found the difficult bit was the very back LH corner and only about 1MM made all the difference.

    My injector harness had a paper label on it just where the rocker cover gasket Nipple slides onto the harness to hold it down, and this caused the gasket to twist with an oil leak. I then superglued the gasket into the slot in the rocker cover particularly at the corners and at intervals. I had to clamp mine for hours to try and undo the twist and it looks like it worked as no leaks now.
    Check the camshaft front plug as this was sloppy loose on my 135KK Disco, and a new one is cheap. I sealed it temporarily with gasket sealant and that worked well until I bought a new one.
    Take the rubber gasket out of the ECU plug to let an oil drain. Mine took several months. take the gasket out before using contact cleaner. Mine is a Disco 2 and the injector wires are at the bottom of the plug, but I don't know about defender.

    Injector Harness

    Hi Bruce, glad you were helped by my info.
    Clean ECU and injector pins with good quality electronic component cleaner or computer cleaner, not WD40 or similar, it leaves a residue, film.

    I typed " oil injector harness" in to the Aulro seach box and got 780 entries!!
