Hi all,
I'm in a bit of a pickle as I need to move a td5 deefer but it won't turn over- it clicks and the dash lights flicker in time. Sounded like a flat battery but the charger thinks the battery is full and leaving it to charge anyway didn't change anything. I don't have a multimeter with me unfortunately and have to move it first thing tomorrow
Any ideas? If I can't start it I'll just have to tow it (somewhere safe away from the fires).

Hidden kill switch?
Also check for loose battery leads and dirty terminals on the battery. The clicking noise seems to indicate a lack of power to the starter.

						The battery could have a dropped cell - this happened to me recently. Dash lights dim and only got 1 or 2 turns before it wouldn't crank anymore
Depending on what type of battery you have and also what type of charger as some chargers will not charge some batteries I have had this problem personally. The battery was down on voltage and the charger would not bring it up. IF the battery does have a collapsed cell then it is a jump start. However, this clicking noise generally indicates a dead battery. You could try giving the solenoid a few taps, as this sometimes can help.

						SubscriberPossibly Solenoid contacts in the Starter motor. Does all the standard starting tricks, but nothing happens. The starter has a couple of copper contacts that eventually wear out. You can buy these contacts on ebay for not much. Or you may need a new starter motor.
I have had some luck with the hammer trick. Get someone to start the engine, or keep the key turned. Then get a hammer and smack the stater motor solenoid. With luck you might get it to engage.
Alternatively you ought to be able to push start it.
Also look for oil around the stater motor, I've read that a leaking fuel cooler or other oil leaks can quickly stuff the contacts up.
Dirty/oily contacts in the starter solenoid is a common problem on the TD5 and can cause intermittent starting, clicking etc.
