    VDO speedo

Has anyone fitted a VDO SPEEDO or similar to a county/defer? Or know anything about it?

I'm looking at the cockpit vision series speedo and want to hear if it's the best way to go.

Also, anyone know what the fitting in the gearbox is? Bloke at the shop asked if it's 7/8 UNF and what shape the input is... Square, round with a key, etc. need to know so I can buy the right sender.

    Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Eric (Redgoon), I would love to see pics of your one tonner, reckon you could start a thread in member's rides or the Series section? They are particularly rare in Aus!

Drive from the transfer case is small square drive (same for both electronic and original speedo cable).

This info might be useful, as it talks about the pulse rates from the standard transducers: Speedo transducer 300 tdi / Td5 - Requests for Part Numbers - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum
You may be able to use one of those with the VDO speedo.

td5 defendr elctronic speedo and transducer, easy to fit and wire up, lcd display trip/ odo. decent backlight, best upgrade i have done to my county dash. and amazingly the td5 lt230 transducer just bolts straight up to the lt95 and is reasonably accurate, ( 8% out at 100kmh) too.

I owned a TD5 Defender for a while. The only thing I liked about it over my County was the instruments / back lighting, very clear and easy to read.

Some would baulk at describing an 8% error as "Reasonably accurate".

If you would like closer accuracy, or have fitted larger tyres which affect the reading even more, Jaycar make an electronic corrector kit: KC5435. Note that this IS a kit which will require soldering, but is very simple to do with basic skills. You can adjust the transducer's signal + or - by up too 99%. Just dial it in to be 100% spot on. Because it corrects the signal, it not only corrects the speedo, but also the odometer.
