Thread: New or Used D90?

I would suggest that "importing" a new Defender would be a massively expensive exercise relative to simply buying a new one from an Aussie dealership.
"Doing Deals"?...I think they are. If you check out "Carsales", you'll see 'em from around $42/43K driveaway to $50K+!!!
I believe that a reasonable new "driveaway" price would be around the $42K mark.

thanks - I agree 42 driveaway would be reasonable but some are very far away from this. I did the costings (roughly) from what info I could find available and it looks roughly around the same mark (more hassle to import).

I should add I'm thinking of converting to automatic as I do massive amounts of city (Syd) driving. The td5 is beneficial in cost in that aspect too compared w/ the puma due to compushift, etc.

I would not convert a puma to Auto, really not worth it, I drive my 90 puma in the city once to twice a week, while the clutch is heavy you do get used to it and you find that 1st gear is slow enough to crawl in that if you just leave a gap unlike most people you do not need to start and stop so frequently you just coast along like a snail. (albeit Brisbane traffic)

44K is about the average price I see puma 90's going for. seem to be a fair few around second hand also in the high 30's if you were to consider a second hand puma 90. I have considered selling mine to get a 110 single cab.

I love my 90 but the limited space can be frustrating some times, might be able to get a 110 single cab cheaper? (that is if its going to fit your needs)

from what I have seen second hand td5's are near the price of a puma but lack all the 'comforts' for what of a better term. that the puma has.

I'd buy a new one, warranty and free servicing make it almost not much point in running and older one. Especially if you job out your maintenance. Add in a novated lease...


Auto conversion on a puma is not cheap, nor is it on a td5. Ten thousand as a starting price with used bits.

The puma is miles easier to drive on traffic than the td5. Only mod I would consider is a red booster for the clutch, but even without the puma clutch is quite light.

It wasn't that long ago they were selling new 90s for 39 driveaway. In fact I think they have a special incentive on the 90 right now.

Any idea which dealer these special incentives are? Haven't been informed of any in my area.

I contacted a few people stating conversion for td5 about 4-5k w/ install.

For the ashcroft puma runs about 8500landed + install I believe (which is too spendy)

I looked at buying a td5 before I bought my puma 90, I just think the price of a td5 is too much. I like them but I kept finding that for a half decent one they were selling at $30000 and they were up to ten years old.
