what to check before leaving dealer

    Gday everyone

Just so seeing what advice people might have for final checks at the dealer before the keys are handed over on a new car? Paint defects, interior finish etc, anything in particular to keep an eye out for?. This arvie I pick up a brand new 110 defender. Corris grey, leather pack, dual finish alloys etc..

    What have other people experienced?

    Question

I will be interested in your responses, as we hope to be picking up our 90 in the next week. Would have liked to have it now, but luckily for them, but unluckily for us, the Dealer is very busy.
    Cheers, Pickles.

I found it best to take it home and drive it for a few days to get a fuller list of issues. Only thing I would check is that predelivery included checking all fluids and carrying out any known service notes. For example rather than wait for the intercooler hose to blow, they should fix this up front.

Hose clamps. I think this has been fixed by recalls but 2012 Models it was very common for turbo hose to come off and for radiator hoses to rub and leak. It happened to mine and it dropped all its fluid.

only things that will matter before leaving the dealer will be scratches to interior or exterior.

everything else you will need a week or so to find, things like pain runs on the rear door (mine looks like it has a set off balls dripping off it :|) rust on everything, that is apparently normal though. . .
check all your lights work, been a few that have shorted brake lights (including mine)

most things you will pickup within a week and are not going to be big issues and you can have them fix up at first service or book in earlier to do so. I am sure others will have long lists though.

oh and have fun hunting for you complimentary nut, it should be rolling around in there somewhere

(oh also have them check diff and gearbox levels if possible, few people have some very low levels on delivery 0_0 )

When I picked up my wife's new Micra, I crawled underneath it and found one of the heat shields was half torn off. I did get some strange looks but hey who cares when your spending big money. No doubt once it was out the door it would have been our problem. Open all doors and bonnet. check for any damage or poor detailing. If an issue is found hit them up for something. free service ect. I got headlight covers for my trouble.

For a Defender lift all the rubber matting and check for swarf. They leave a lot of it in there after manufacture and in my opinion, dealer pre-delivery should get all this rubbish cleaned out. The mats rub it against the metal floor plates and it scratches and wears through the paint causing rust spots.

Aaahh komaterpillar, I lived at Drayton, went to School at Harristown High, a school friend of mine Doug Schultz, runs a used car business, Autoland, in Clifford St. Last time I was there was a few years ago for the Monaro Nationals in Warwick.
    Good luck with your delivery.
    Cheers, Pickles.

;-) When I picked up my 2003 Defender back in 2003, I took it home and over a period of weeks found 4 cigarette butts, piles of rivet stems, lots of swarf, and the 3 nuts floating around under the mats.

It was a South African build, so I assume they have different rules there about smoking on the production line....
