Baby seats in a new Defender

    Howdy,

just wondering if it is possible to fit 3 baby seats across the back seat of the current model defender? Not a lot a cars can, but for me a Def has to be a jack of all trades and that includes family bus.....

Amazingly enough it's easier to do this than in a Discovery!. The reason is that the height of the rear seat means it's above the wheel arches so you get the full width of the rear seat. I had three safe and sound seats across the back of mine. It was tight but did fit no worries.

The only other issue is the child restraint points. There are Expensive options (CRAB bars) that reduce the flexbility of the back of the vehicle, and cheap options that don't impact the rear load area, but are hard to find people who will fit. (Child restraint anchor bolts in the rear wheel arches)

Fixing isofix anchor points at the base of the seats would be the ideal. You can buy universal anchor brackets, if your car doesn't already have them. This system however is currently illegal but soon to be legal I understand. legal in most other civilized countries of the world.

There is at least one place in Sydney that puts 1 x engineered restraint points in to the back of each of the rear seats (so 3 points in all, allows 3 child seats assuming you can fit them in) for just under the $1k mark

As for ISOFIX it is staggering it isn't allowed here is it is so much better than the poxy systems we are forced to live with!

    Thanks for the advice.

The new interiors of the Defenders make them much more appealing. It's a shame Land Rover still leave you with work to do like fitting anchor points, but at least it sounds like they can fit 3 seats across.
