2002 TD5 loss of throttle at high speed

    Hope someone can help,

Last week Solihull Sally and I were making yet another trip from Newcastle to Melbourne and on the Hume she started to lose speed on even the slightest inclination. If I changed down it kept dropping speed then would gradually accelerate and be OK till the next slight incline. Being a TD5, I am naturally paranoid about fuel pumps. At no time did she stop or fail to regather speed but it was alarming that she could not maintain the speed limit over a 2 or 3 degree inclination of the road. Any ideas? What I'm really after is someone to reassure me I'm not up for a fuel pump.

Yeah... it's probably the fuel pump... our D2 manual did much the same thing when it was on it's way out, if it hasn't had one by 200kkm you're doing well anyway.

    Cheers

Thanks. I will replace it with the VDO unit from the UK. Can you confirm the part number? Paddock spares have it for 225 pound.

Don't rule out the cheap stuff first, my air filter gave the same symptoms, it was waterlogged though

Don't buy a cheap fuel pump it will end in frustration only buy either VDO or Genuine.
The fuel pump on a TD5 is the least of your worries, I found putting a fuel pressure gauge on the dash the best way to watch this.
The plumbing is really easy just use the plug in hoses from an old fuel pressure regulator.
    Works a treat
