Hi guys I'm looking at buying this from landrover tuning. http://www.landrovertuning.com.au/de...-defender.html
I was wondering if anyone has one and if they are worth the money, at over $900 for a steering wheel
there is the cheaper leather Raid for just over $300 but then you have to get the Boss Kit, and if you want the solid colour for the middle your up around the $560 mark anyways. And the $900 one looks like its OME a bit better quality, the Raid looks like a Supercheap Auto job.
The most important question is what size??? I'm thinking 360mm if I'm not wrong the standard Puma wheel is over 400mm, I want to go smaller but too much.
Can anyone confirm that a 340mm might be a bit too small or not????

						A lot of people use aftermarket wheels in their fourbys (various makes, not just Landys) and 350 mm is generally regarded as a good size.
You can get other aftermarket wheels that are leather (eg Momo does a few models that would suit, and some models come in both 350 mm and 400 mm). These look good (but not as flash as the one you're looking at) and are a lot more cost effective.
I am considering a Momo "tuner" for mine, which is full leather rim and available with black spokes. I am waiting for the vehicle to be delivered (late March/early April) so I can count the splines to ensure I get the right boss kit.
My wife and I will be visiting the UK mid-year, so I am thinking about sourcing a wheel and boss from over there.

Babs, the steering wheel you are showing there is from Startech in Germany. www.startech.de Startech are a tuner owned by Brabus I believe, which is again Mercedes connected. All what they do is extremely high quality, no compromises there. Startech are used by Land Rover for producing starting from factory Defenders several not very large limited editions for primarily the German and Swiss market. This steering wheel was for the first time put on the Defender German and Swiss "Black Pearl" limited editions, which in total must have amounted to approximately 50 piece.... More recently this same steering wheel was again used in the German "Blaser" and Swiss "Hunter" limited editions, again small number only.
I have bought this steering wheel directly from Startech about 4 years ago for my SVX. In my opinion it is the nicest smaller diameter wheel you can get for a high spec Defender. If you order it, it indeed comes complete with Land Rover black logo, as well as with the boss. In order to be sure you get the right boss for your vehicle, better to take your current steering wheel off first and count the splines. Still today some Defenders have 36 spline column, others 48 spline.
Also when you order the steering wheel do not forget to specify which color stitching for the leather you want. Believe if you do not ask, standard it will be black leather with white stitching, but for my SVX I ordered all black stitching. This wheel makes the Defender much more comfortable to drive, but I would suggest the price being very high, it is mostly suitable for a high spec truck. Otherwise maybe go for a similar diameter cheaper different brand....

FWIW dedicated off road race steering wheels for Dakar type comp use from Momo, OMP, etc. are 380mm, while most 'sports' type wheels are 350mm diameter.
Just bear in mind that a smaller wheel may obscure the instruments too, and smaller isn't always better, rim size and shape have a huge bearing on feel too, and I've used wheels as small as 10" Momo's in race cars. (I miss the suede D shaped wheel I had in one)
