[QUOTE=Goots;2088336]I'd advise you to get a snorkel. Probably an ARB one like a Safari and to get a nugget air box.
Hi mate, I was thinking of getting a Mantec snorkel.. Is there a reason you feel ARB or Safari snorkels are better??
Cheers
Do you also recommend getting one of those gearbox snorkels? I read somewhere the gearbox oil cooler has a breather that will let water in also?

As in like a breather? Yes definitely. You can get kits to do all diffs, transfer case and gbox. I'd recommend that because without a doubt you'll have ingress of water and it just wrecks the oils. I changed mine after my little episode and the oils were basically milk.
I reckon these are important because you can get ingress to gbox and tcase if say you were just bogged in some watery mud or just traversing a deep ford.
The only reason I say an ARB affiliated brand is because that's all I've ever used personally. If the dealer can do Manteca cheaper go for it, but if you check one thing on pick up make it the snorkel. As in fittings, finish etc
Other than that should be a cracking rig!
One option is 255/85 (33.4in)tyres instead of the standard 235's (32in)you will need a different wheel offset though as the normal + 30 will touch the rear spring mount on full compression . Somebody using the +20 sawtooth factory alloys was ok but another touched. I have 255 bighorns at the zero offset and they are good, better than the old coopers 235's that where there when I bought it.
You really do need to go through seriously deep water to need a snorkel. The bottom of the air-intake is 900 mm off the ground. At that depth you have water on the floor of the vehicle (600 mm) and in the back (750 mm). At 900 mm you are getting water in the driver's seat box which is full of sensitive electronic gizmos. At depths greater than 600 mm flotation starts to be an issue (until the vehicle fills up with water). You will get water surging over the bonnet at even moderate speeds at even moderate water depths.
You need to be very mindful that if your vehicle is under warranty, then any damage from water crossings greater than 500 mm depth (official maximum wading depth) will likely not be covered, snorkel fitted or not.
I might add that I have an OEM raised air intake (they are made by Mantec), one of Nugget's connection kits, and have moved the electronics from under the drivers seat to a Mulgo X-box. Did I really need these mods? Probably not.

Isnt there other benefits from such mods? Such as the better air quality due to a snorkel, and the raised console box for an arm rest, not sure about the nugget box however.
Would you also say then that the diff and trans breathers would be more important than the snorkel?
No discredit to Nugget, however, ... would a trip to Clark Rubber and a few Clamps would do the trick?
also.. met Daniel from Mulgo today at the Victorian 4x4 Show.... I am more wiser now :-)
