    Puma Interest

    Greeting all,
    I am looking seriously into getting a 2.4 110. Coming from a 300tdi can some one please tell me :

    How much difference is the aircond and airflow into the cabin ?
    Does the new aircond pump out enough to cool a 110 ?
    The fuel stats say 11-100km , is that accurate ?
    Are there any inherent problems still left over from TDI/TD5 like wet drivers foot?

    For the money I want quality , if it is still not up to scratch with the above items I might just rebuild and rewrk what I have.

    I've never owned a td5 but I have owned a tdi300, I've now got a puma. The air con on the puma is great - in my opinion. The fuel economy is about right. The leak onto the drivers foot, not been too much of a drama for me but it hasn't rained in four months so I can't remember. I love my puma and I reckon it was a great decision to get one, I haven't regretted it for a minute.

    Air con works great, I was worried about this before I bought one, passengers complain it gets too cold. It could do with side vents but ah well it works good enough.

    Had a small leek from drivers side not much but passenger side you can go fishing. Mines getting fixed under warranty.

    Don't worry all the floor is aluminium anyway

    Mine's a 2.2. I've had Tdis and td5s as well. The 2.2 is better than those in almost all respects. The a/c does work well (my rear seat passengers also complain that it's too cold) and the dash in the Puma is a huge improvement over the cheap plastic thing of past models. I've had no water leak in yet but then it never rains. I'd probably go the Puma, although if all my driving was slow bush work or around town I'd think seriously about keeping the Tdi (they're just better at that kind of thing). 11L/100km is about right.

    Do they actually have seals that work around doors? Mine I could see the road thru the bottom passenger door..

    I love my Defender but realistically its purely an emotional decision. If you say you want quality for the money you are going to spend dont buy a Defender as if you compare it to other vehicles it does not stack up well at all.
    BUT you are buying a legend and a statement of individuality not reliability or value! And since you have already had a Defender you know whats in store.

    The Defender is about to be stopped soon and I think that the factory are slipping with quality and just getting them out. One of our members of our club has had one for 12 months and its been on a tilt tray 5 times and been in the workshop for a total of 2 months of that time. Major Gearbox failure, rear diff failure, leaks, clutch master cylinder failure. Centre diff selector failure etc. He uses it off road a fair bit so its had a hard life but they are made for that.

    Seals around doors are good. No daylight!

    Fuel economy gets better as time goes by. Started out at 12L/100, but after 20,000Kms am now getting 10.5 or 11L/100.

    Aircon is soooooooo much better than my TD5. As is the lower 1st gear and the higher 6th gear.

    Not had any dramas with mine apart from a new rear diff - replaced under warranty.

    I am looking into a 2010 ... the guy has thrown some huge coin at it.
    With 85k on the clock . I guess I am just weary as I don't know much about the Puma.

    Air con is awesome, particularly when recycling cabin air...cools the space more quickly than I was expecting.

    Fuel economy when unloaded, with no roofrack is definitely a capable 11. Load + windage = decrease in economy, but that goes for all vehicles.

    The leaking? Well, it's a Defender. Mine leaks through the A-frame join but it just drips occasionally. Will be fixing that with a Pop-top. Were I not having the Pop-top, I'd fix it with a screwdriver and some sealant.

    Deefa is right; it's an emotional decision. I would suggest putting some thought into how much freight the bloke has put into the vehicle and working out what you might save on all of that stuff too.

    Mine's a 2008 130, the dual cab is obviously a smaller space than the 110 wagon but the aircon works very well. Mine doesn't seem to leak rainwater into the cab. The door seals let air in, particularly around the bottom.
    A mate was sitting in the back and asked me why he could see daylight through the floor. I told him that was because it was daytime, if he wants to see dark he should come back at night.
    Haven't had any reliability issues in 14 months & 25,000km. had to replace the MAP sensor, warning light was coming on, never stopped or anything though.
    Fuel consumption is pretty accurate, I'm finding that having my roofrack on makes more difference than I expected, without it 9.5-10.5 L/100km, with the roofrack it's somewhere around 11.5
