110 Seat Extensions. Tall folks of Brisbane. Help me!

Hi all…… looking for some help.

I have been toying with buying a 110 for a while now. My only hurdle, height.

I'm 6'7"/2m tall. I think the extensions will be enough for me but the helpful guys at Landrover can't help me out. I even offered to buy the rails if they would give me a vehicle to test over the weekend. Nothing.

Anyway, anybody in Brisbane have the rails fitted to a late model 110 and be willing to let me sit in their vehicle?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

I am in Townsville sorry. I am 6'2" and I think the seat rail extensions from Mulgo are one of the best mods I have done.

    Hi mate

I am 2m as well and picked up a new 90 last month. One of the first things I did was change the seat rails after taking delivery. I only used the seat rails for a couple of days before taking them off.
The problem I found with the seat rails was that it lifts the seat higher than its current position, which means that your visibility from the top of the windscreen gets chopped. Not only that, the visibility out of the left and right door is also severely reduced.

I don't believe the seat rails are an ideal solution for someone 2m tall.

What I have done now is (best modification you can do) changed the steering wheel to a smaller diameter SAAS wheel with a momo boss kit. I can drive the defender like a normal car now. I have 3 fingers gap between the steering wheel and my legs.

This is a really easy modification to do. It cost me $230 for the steering wheel and the boss kit.

    Hope this helps.

I'm 5 11" and found my knees got quite sore on a long drive without the extensions. I'm now very comfortable, and now don't need the seat to go as far back as it now can. As someone else said you do sit taller which may affect your visibility.

    Cheers

    Thanks Gazcooner.

That seems like a great idea.

Do you have any pictures of the wheel fitted? Does it look pretty 'factory'?

The dealer put me on to a company in Brisbane that manufacture there own version of the rail. I will investigate further but I believe that they build a complete replacement without having to lift the seat 25mm that the others seem to do whilst still gaining 50mm-75mm of travel. These would be manufactured and plated. Something I would like to do for Insurance. I will see if they have any photos. I need to get in touch with them regarding child safety anchors either way.

I'm 6ft and have no need for them - still have about 2 inches or rear travel in the standard rails to go.

Thinking about getting a set just for the height increase (as an experiment).

I think you'll find the lift is needed to clear the rear lip of the seat box?

    Hey Sam

The wheel I have purchased is black in colour so fits in with the decor of the defender.

If you have a look at this thread you will see there are quite a few steering options available depending on what your budget is.

    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130...el-4-puma.html

To be honest I am quite fussy about retaining the original and classic feel of the defender, but I believe I would have still gone with changing the steering wheel even if the only option available was in pink colour with Britney Spears signature on it.. : )

Believe it or not, if you are 2m tall then this is your only option.. : )

    Cheers
    Gary
