Tyres, the MTR is probably the wrong tread for me, (Touring) but if its the Kevlar side wall puncture resistant, maybe it's worth the compromise, or go Conti on a non Sawtooth alloy or even change them to Bridgestone D697 after purchase.

My personal experience with the MTR's is

1 - They have a very soft compound. Absolutely awesome grip anywhere, including tarmac in the wet!. BUT they wear very quickly as a consequence.

2 - They are a little noisey, but nothing like my other defender with BFG MT's on it. That's noisey +++.

3 - One issue with the MTR is that they are not sold here - they appear to be an older model that's not imported to Australia. So finding a spare spare is pretty hard. (I stopped looking...)

4 - They seem to be better than BFG MT and COOPER STT, as far as I can tell - but they do seem to be wearing twice or three times faster.

5 - The sawtooth rims are nice to look at - really nice - but are easily damaged and frankly dirty black rims look dirty. My XTECH has them , but I keep that defender pristine so I don't mind. Functionally there is no benefit of the Sawtooth, so the only reason to get them is cosmetic, and if you are using your defender on dirt, then cosmetically they are a negative. Personally I'd go with the new machined flat surface silver rims (Forgot their name) and stock tyres, those stock general grabbers are awesome for touring and last 80,000ks + (I got 116,000k's out of my first set).....

That barrier AFAIK is designed to sit either behind the front or second row of seats.

I'm guessing they are saying it won't fit behind the front row if you have a sun roof - might hit the open / close knob on the sunroof.

1/ the steering/sump guard mounts below the bumper on the chassis and will be comparable with ARB bulbar and all the other brands I would think. I have the SVX with factory alloy guard and an ARB bulbar, no issues.

2/ I've got an SVX standard with sun roof. Cannot understand why the Milford barrier would not be compatible, even if you wanted behind the first row. The sun roof would be no where near it. Really not even close to it......

3/ Tyres personal choice. I use MTZ's and love them.

OEM MTRs are not the Kevlar ones. The Kevlars are available in Au but are expensive. The OEM MTRs are only available from LRAu (and consequently, are also likely to be expensive). I use the Kevlar MTRs on my D90 for touring. They are a bit of a compromise with a finer central tread pattern that give quite reasonable road holding on dry tarmac. Excellent in the dirt. They are asymmetrical.

The cargo barrier should not be a problem with the sun hatch. Be mindful that a cargo barrier significantly reduces the rear load space.

The OEM steering guard does not mount to the bumper.

Stock tyre option isn't a General Grabber anymore. Its a Continental.

I've specced the MTR's on ours as it makes no sense to me to change tyres straight away. Having said that IMO the KM2 is a far better tyre.

Hi mate. I have a 2013 110, and I optioned the MTR. They are fantastic off-road, but have already worn considerably faster than a decent (read: aggressive) ATR. TheY are also noisy compared with say a BFG All Terrain. If touring is your thing, I'd either go standard contis until they wear through, or swap to BFG / Cooper AT3. If you get your bargaining right with the dealer, there are quite a few new Deefers for delivery with Defender alloy wheels - a great personalised wheel between stock and saw tooth.

Ref: barrier... I think it is only if you wish to mount behind front seats. I have a sump guard too, but considering I run a rover craft bar I don't think it is attached to the factory piece!

Thanks, yes I think I will go conti, plus decided sawtooth would be too much with santorini (sic) & Indus silver roof. Cargo barrier can wait until I see one in the flesh.

The 2014 brochure has a few new accessories over the 2013 brochure, as if we needed more things to consider!
