Gota be happy with that !
Towed our new MDC hard floor camper behind the Defender on Friday. Sat perfect behind the fender. Nice and level. 8psi in air bags. Installed the electric brakes previous Sunday. Powered up a hill where normally in our cruiser we would be back to 3rd/4th to get over the other side, 5th gear without a problem. Go the fender!
Gota be happy with that !
Considering the trailer weighed best part of 1300kg. Have towed heavier with D3 but the td5 handled it like it was an empty box trailer.
Damn... I just tired out my 2003 TD5 with our new (2nd hand) camper and found it sluggish beyond what I can tolerate. So now I'll need to look at fixing this performance issue...
great stuff, and good looking tyres too!
It sounds like you got a sweet spot with 5th gear on the td5 - my 2010 Puma 2.4L needed something between 5th and 6th gear when dealing with hills towing a camper trailer.
You cant please everyone all the time though, i was happy with it, particularly in the murderous WA heat![]()
We are headed to Kimberlies end of May 2015. We just bought fender recently to do the trip. We got it early so we can add some bits & pieces diff locks etc. I am busting to do the trip. Will be doing a few little trips between now & then. We have 4 fenders going so far. 2 ex Telstra 130's & 2 110 wagons. 1-130 towing track trailer off road van and mine with the above set up.
BilboBoggles - remap and it is all solved.
Just wondering what type (brand and model) of electric brake controller you fitted and where the control unit was put in the 110. I am about to get one fitted (sorry not that handy myself) for a new camper I have ordered. Have been looking at the Red Arc remote head model.
Cheers Brad![]()
Tekonsha P3 in mine also. Absolutely awesome and easy to use. Mine is in around same spot. My suggestion is to check where you can reach comfortably as it's you that has to use. But I would say that's the spot to put it. Where are you as am happy to help if you need. We bought off eBay also, paid $150 each about month ago.
