    Clear Coat Problem

The clear coat has gone completely from the top of one front guard and partially on the other. I have put checker plate on them so the appearance is OK.

My problem now is that it is starting to peel off the side of the guard. Is there anything I can do to stop it getting worse? If I can then it has not gone too far...

    Thanks Howard

Not sure what year model you have but with most manufacturer's the paint and corrosion warranty extends longer that the ordinary vehicle warranty does.

Hope this is the case for you, because the only fix is a respray.

It's a 99 Defender Extreme so I doubt that any warranty applies

    Well, a re-spray it is !

You could slow the spread of the peeling by using some pressure pack clear to seal the edges of the peeling. A little bit of a rub with some 1200 wet-n-dry, spray the on clear to stop the weather getting in and that will slow it considerably.

But nothing will beat a respray !

How long is this period? The roof on my 06 Defender is delaminating.

    Hi

Reckon that unless you have had it from new the paint won't be a LR problem, rather a repair problem. Not that that will help.

Even from new can be a problem, damage in transit is "fixed" by LRA. On my D2 found out later that the whole of one front guard and possibly front door had been repainted before delivery. LRA and/or dealer aren't going to tell you.

    Cheers

The other issue is the vehicle has to be inspected by LR once a year or the warranty does not apply.

This is in the hand book.

You may also have to pay for the inspection.

Right on! But resale is my issue, especially as I may finally carry through my now five year old promise to my wife to sell it. On the other hand I have just installed a Barrett 950 and the engine is going the BEST ever since replacing the manifold pressure/temperature sensor...

Not to mention all the other bits I replaced before I found out it was the manifold sensor!
