I once successfully re clearcoated a motorcycle tank , by peeling the clearcoat as much as possible, then going over the remainder with thinners until it could be scraped off with a soft tool.
I was able to do it without distrubing the lower coat to a noticable degree.
then I resprayed with cans of clearcoat, and it came up beautifully.
This works best if you can establish a margin, eg the edge of the guard or your checkerplate .
Beats a beat up patchwork every time.

Sell it? dont know many that do that! most sorta look on them as a family heirloom to be passed down umpteen generations. You know Grandads axe thing, new handle and all but its grandads axe still!
Yeah the replacing stuff can get exxy until you find the culprit!
