WHAT!!!! 8.7!!! that's awesome. Do you only drive downhill? I'm impressed. I wish I got that.... do you drive up to 2000rpm or 2000-3000rpm? in general...

^ Hahaha. All down hill...should be coming out in China soon! But seriously, I generally change the gears between 1800rpm and 2300ish depending on the situation. I think the difference is that I try to take off smoothly and lightly on the accelerator. I was once told that the accelerator is like a tap. Open a tap a little and you get a trickle. Open it more and you get a gushing flow.

The best I've managed to get is 8.2L/100kms. The very worst was mid 9's. And this with an engine that is still tight. I have about 15000kms on the car at present.

Yep, impressive figures! We get around 11.5l/100km out of our MY13 90 but have a bullbar, rear bar, roof rack and MTs, each of which add about 0.5l I'm told.

98% of all Land Rovers built are still on the road.
The other 2% made it home.

Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.

Post some pics of your trip

That is about where I change gears too, and I drive around at 60km/hr in 5th to keep revs down a bit while cruising around. Maybe my tap has a leak Or it's my bull bar, snorkel, and checker plate slowing me down.

It has to be the checker-plate. Really disrupts the smooth, flowing aerodynamics of the Defender. Checker-plate...instrument of the devil.

    old school economy

Just returned from a weekend on straddy Is, 200kms on road, 100 kms off road, returned a overall consumption of 10.2 l/100km ,I'm extremely happy with that.

    1996 defender 130, 300tdi , 4HP22 auto, 300000kms +, bullbar, racks, LR tank = 2400 Kgs + camping gear, driven like my grandma would .

Wouldn't you love to post these figures on a Cruiser forum
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

9.5l/100km around town and about 10 on a trip. 94 TDI with high speed streamlined chequerplate steel tray. best range is at around 90-95 km/hr on a Brisbane - Sydney trip. Skinny's definitely save fuel.

    I've got an 09 2.4 110.

I'm getting 9.6 liters per 100k's. I tow about a ton sometimes and I still get under 10.

I've got the big ****ty center muffler and big ****ty hot CAT removed.

Getting rid of them both made a big difference and was well worth it. Local exhaust shop made me a dump pipe replacing the CAT for $120 and I just bought the terrifirma straight through pipe to replace the muffler from eBay. She's still really quiet.
