IF my front wheel is possibly going to snap off due to a faulty weld, I want a new complete axle assembly rather than some dodgy bolt on crappy wheel retainer... That solution is pathetic.

On certain Land Rover Defender 110, 2011 and 2012 Model Year vehicles and Land Rover Defender 130, 2011 and 2012 Model Year vehicles customers have reported oil leaks from end of the front axle case.

What are the defects?
Some customers have reported oil leaks from end of the front axle case. In more severe cases customers have reported that the wheel hub assembly and suspension have collapsed up into the wheel arch. In extreme cases the wheel and hub have detached from the vehicle.
What are the hazards?
If the wheel hub assembly and suspension collapse or detach the vehicle stability will be compromised and the degree of directional control minimised, this significantly increases the risk of an accident.

What should consumers do?
Owners will be notified and instructed to take their vehicles to a Land Rover authorised repairer who in the case of certain 110 and 130 vehicles with heavy duty suspension, will have correct to specification replacement front axle case installed (Recall action P047)
All other affected vehicles will have an additional bracket (Recall action P048) mounted to the end of the axle case tube to ensure that in the event of failure, wheel, hub assembly and suspension is retained. In this condition the vehicle will exhibit an oil leak from the failed weld area and it is possible steering will be less precise, steering may be mis-aligned and off centre steering will be degraded. In this condition vehicle stability and control ability is fully maintained.
There will be no charge to owners for this repair

SubscriberHi we're Land Rover and although we've been making this vehicle for decades still can't work out how to make an axle. Can we interest you in 110k RRS without low range? Low range isn't much use with the 22" rims and all. Our DNA yes we talk about that a lot it's adventure you know not that we expect any of our customers do it but it does help us sell vehicles.

After yesterdays "fail to proceed" and my entertaining day in the dealer waiting room while they replaced the turbo hose , im wondering what i will do if it happens on my big trip across the desert next year.... Its the reason i bought the vehicle...

He claimed it was a hose clamp failure, but the clamp was still around the hose, the hose was just half off the turbo flange and split.

Which you will then have problems fitting as they are wider than the original which in turn causes other hoses to rub and wear in the all the wrong spots.. I know because I have said silicon hoses..You will reach into your spares bin and take out your silicone hoses and/or your silicone tape
Oh and that rescue tape... don't bother.., a forum member recently tried it on his split hose and it lasted about three seconds.. (looks great when they demo it at the shows though)..
