    Is this the correct grade of Syntrans for the R380?

    As per title, I just want to make sure I am buying the right stuff for my 1998 Defender 300tdi gearbox.

    Read the label - that is not Syntrans but is SynTrax.

    You need SynTrans.

    penrite 75/80

    either that or penrite 75/80 semi syn which is what I use, much better cold shifting 1st to 2nd, tried 75/85 had trouble with first to second.
    now shifts sweet I would have thought that 75/85 would be a bit heavy for the cooler down there cheers.

    If you had problems with Syntrans then there was an issue with your gearbox.

    I used it here in Canberra -5 mornings in winter and it worked fine.

    Syntrans

    I was using Penrite 75/80 and changed to Syntrans in my TD5 130 for a recent trip north and found the box more notchy.

    Syntrans takes a while to show its advantages depending what lube was in prior to the change

    Once it kicks in it is great unless you have a mechanical issue

    penrite 75/80

    if I have a problem with my r380 its been there for 352,000ks
    75/80 for me cheers
