Just replaced my lift pump last weekend. Pump cost about $50, took about an hour or so to change out, fiddly but not too painful, easy enough if you have the tools.

Hi folks
Well a familiar as I am with the places a Td5 like to leak fuel from, the Tdi is new territory for me, so some words from the wise will be helpful.
Driving home yesterday I get the familiar whiff of diesel and pulling up on the drive, sure enough, drip, drip, drip.
A cursory investigation this morning suggests it may coming from something bolted to the side of the block, beneath the air filter. A quick look at the grainy, useless pics in an ancient Haynes manual makes me think this may be the lift pump?
If so, lift pumps: which bits leak commonly and how hard/expensive are they to fix?

obtainable through repco at times otherwise express post from a few suppliers. believe can also run without it and primed by filling tank right up.mine has a small electric boost pump.
Bought mine in ex east. Plenty of sellers on fleabay, but just make sure you get one with a new gasket and olives

My 300tdi had a fuel leak off the side of the block. It turned out to be the injector pump. Cost a bit to fix from memory!!!

Def not the injector pump, I know what you mean though. Back in about 2003 I bought an '88 grey import Pajero. The thing had only done 17,000kms and was virtually a "new" car.
On the one hand, that was great, but within 2 months the injector pump started to leak from every orifice. It'd had so little use all the seals had dried up (Delphi pump), $900 later it was good as new and still going strong as my mate's son's first car.
This Defender's had very little use over the last 3 years, so I think now I've bought it & I'm running it every day, there may be a few little things like this crop up. 😉

						Don't buy the model with the pressed in fittings,they come loose and the pump sucks air and runs like the filter is blocked,only use the model with the one piece top. Pat
