Hi all, I plan to fit high performance intercooler, to my 2.4 90 puma, have it coming in the mail, with some silicone hoses, just wondering if it will interfere with my extended warranty, even though its a joke, I did just have a clutch replaced, which has a 12 month warranty on just that as a component.
my thoughts were to fit better int cooler to compensate for the rise in egt you get when egr is closed all the time. and start messing with the egr ie unplug it( can put wires back on for shop visits), I have an ultraguage so im assuming i can get rid of engine light with that.
any thoughts?

Closing EGR doesn't increase EGT. But having said that, there is no downside to a better intercooler. Providing the new intercooler is better, the stock one looks very good.

I'd expect your warranty company could have issues with you modifying engine parts. Particularly if they think (correctly or otherwise) that it will increase torque and make life harder for the clutch.

Yeah actually egr does reduce egt (goes through egr cooler which is integrated in the engine)
The new intercooler Ive got coming is bigger than than the stock one.

The Egr cooler is to drop it from exhaust temps to around coolant temp. It still introduces hotter gas and slightly raises egt.Originally Posted by jackdef90

ok cheers, ill take your word for it, when i get back from work ill pull the egr wires off and check the temps, and see how it goes.
Ill call my mechanic and see if he can turn a blind eye to an intercooler upgrade.
Is there any downside to pulling the wires off the egr? (providing I can get rid of warning light with my ultraguage, which im pretty sure I can)

If the EGR is physically disabled (blanking plates or unplugged) but not turned off in the ECU maps then the engine still expects different measured airflow when the EGR would be working.
This could reduce performance or it could even result in the ECU throwing an error code.
It's going to code for sure...
Ultra gauge won't help a bit.
On a 2.4 get a remap which closes the EGR permanently- problem solved.

Get a BAS (Bell Auto Services) remap as Tombie said. You get the actual OBDII programmer with the map and you just flash your factory tune back in when it goes for a service.
Mine's a 2010 2.4 90 and the difference is pretty spectacular.
Oh yeh, and the EGR is programmed permanently closed.

Yeah I started this thread a while back, Ive since purchased and installed a bas remap with the tuning console, I asked for a mild tune and specified I didn't want any increase in egt, my cooling water temps have dropped about 5 deg and only go up to about 90 deg when in 6 th gear and going 90kmh plus. Its made a pretty big difference there's just more power on tap in any gear.
Only issue I have with it is it has increased the tappet noise at 1500 to 2000 rpm, it was there before but it's more pronounced now.
im going to dose it with this crd fuel enhancer I got off a boat mechanic, he reckons its magic stuff
