    Parking in Sydney CBD

    Hi All,

I have to come down to Sydney and was wondering if anyone knew of any parking stations take could take the Fender's height. Preferably somewhere between Circular Quay and King Street in Sydney. I would welcome any suggestions as I haven't been down to Sydney in some time. Cheers Cooch

Are you in Sydney mid week or weekend? Business hours or after hours?

There are some good on street spots, but as for carparks try searching on Compare Car Parking rates from Secure Parking, Wilson Parking & and more in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Singapore & Auckland (refine search lets you specify > 2m height, then click on each to see if they are 2.2 rated).

Depending on what you are doing, might be easier to park just out of the city and catch the train.

Or the Rivercat which stops at both King St and Circular Quay and I find more relaxing than train travel.

best research the parking stations in advance. Based on a search of Wilson and Secure parking I did a while back there was only 1 parking station at 2.2m in the CBD, the rest were around 2 or 2.1m at a stretch. The parking stations for Wilson and Secure note on their website the height limitation. The other thing to consider is if the station has had its sprinkler system revamped since it was last height rated. A friend found out the hard way when he clipped a sprinkler head. The new sprinkler system had only recently been fitted and no one thought to re-assess the clearance.

Don't discount parking in the Casino and wander across the bridge into the CBD. Validate your parking on the way out with a lazy game at the tables. On a nice night there are few walks more rewarding than the Pyrmont bridge.

The best bet for overhead clearance would be Wynyard Lane, which is a bit of a buzz to park in as it is the old Tramway tunnels that came off the east side of the harbour Bridge. If you can fit a tram in there, a Defender with a roof top tent erected won't be an issue.

It is a bit pricey though for casual parking. The only time we've used it was when staying at The Menzies Hotel overnight, where it is included in the rate.

    What are you driving Cooch?

My 2014 Defender 110 fits under a 2.1 m car park. No experience with Sydney locations though, sorry

I'm laughjng just thinking about scrapping into one of those under ground car parks in Sydney which I bet have some pretty right turning circles.

You'll be all excited you fit on entry and then proceed to make some 21 points turns on every bend.

    Enjoy mate!!!

good point on the turning circle of the defender in a CBD parking station. Especially the underground ones in the Rocks. I get nervous in the wife's XC60 volvo wagon which has a wonderful turning circle navigating columns and ramps in the parking station. I would never take the 130 into such a place. I have to do a 3 point turn to get it straight in woolies carpark let alone a parking station that offers no tolerance.

The parking station under the Exhibition centre in Darling harbour is wide and open, probably the best for a defender to navigate.
