How to clean / paint headlight surrounds?

Mine are pretty faded, not a nice black as I'd prefer.

Is there a way these can be bought back to looking fresh/new?

Also known as vinyl paint. Works good but doesn't last as long as I would like.
I've got some left over if you want to give it a try.

After washing the surfaces first with turpentine then wiping down with thinners soaked rag, I sprayed mine with a black acrylic and it is still looking presentable after several years.

I used primer for plastic and gloss black from rust-oleum

Ps I got silver puma defender and never understand why the grill and headlight surround are grey...

Read a similar question to this on good old Facebook just the other day, but it was for bringing the wheel arches back to black.

The answer seemed to be that PEANUT BUTTER was the best and cheapest solution, and recommended by many!
Though it wasn't clear whether to use smooth or crunchy, I'd go the smooth.
Rub it on in a circular motion, then rub it off.
