Agree with MLD - KM2's at an additional $100/ tyre for an extra 40,000km of tread life will always be a good investment...

Save $400 now on buying cheaper tyres and spent $1000 again for a full set of new cheaper tyes in 40,000 which would leave you $600 down compared to running KM2's for their projected 80,000km...

Thanks for all the replies guys! Ive heard some good things about all of the tyres and some bad about all too so will continue to research

Four hundred bucks is a hell of a lot for a pensioner or Disabled people ......

Let us know how you go as I've been thinking of going kumho kl71's in 315/75 as well, once I get a few other things sorted on the defender, sell the house and move.

Also consider once a MT is half worn it is stuffed as far as off road use is concerned, (even though there is a lot of road miles left) your not really realistically going to get 60k out of them let alone 80k, If you want long road life don't get MT's , get road tyres or AT's. or get 2 sets.

Also if you going off road or outback don't spend top $$ your going to cry if you stake expensive tyres, (they stake just as easy as cheapies) also most expensive tyres are going to chip away on some gravel surfaces just the same as cheapies will.

My KM2's have now got 58,000km on them and they still have an average of 11mm left on them (measured by LR during my last service - 265/75/16 starts off with 18mm).

At least half of those kilos were done on the gravel roads of the Pilbara and the rest on black top. At 11mm they might not be at their optimum in the mud any more, but we don't see too much of that over here in the west. Having said that, during the past winter they performed faultlessly when called upon in the mud.

High kilometers are perfectly achievable when your tyre suppliers spends as much on R&D as BFG does...

I appreciate $400 being a lot of money for some people and no intent to be blase about it. My point was purely if you have the means, buying cheap is often more expensive in the long run.

I can't wait to get rid of these federal m/t's, I can barely here my isuzu 4bd1 over them. Am now on the lookout for some quality and quiet m/t's. These are nearly as noisy as my old simex centerpede's

One of the generic Aussie 4WD mags recently did a 5 point comparison on about 7 brands of M/T tyres, and brand new KM2's were either first or second in the noise test. One of the comparison were however price, where they can in last or second last if I recall.

Having said that, as they wear down the do seem to get noisier, which is possibly some slightly uneven wear. Pretty much all would do that I imagine.

Still remarkable how much quieter the General Grabbers on my OEM alloys are when I fit them on the odd occasions!
