Too low, will give very poor reception - especially to the rear.
Make a bracket off the wheel carrier.
This may sound odd, please bear with me
I do not have a bullbar, and would prefer to avoid fitting one
However I suspect mounting an antenna directly to the bumper may put it too low down for good all round signal
I could drill the wing on the passenger side of the bonnet - I'm not too keen on putting another hole into the body....
Just wondering if it is practical (and ADR allowable....) to make up a simple upside down "U" from tube, bolt it to the top of the bumper and mount the antenna on top of that?
If there's a better way I'd love to hear
Cheers

I was thinking of the U being tall enough to raise the top of the antenna above roof line, or would that not make much difference?
If I'm going up higher presumably I could just mount on my roof platform, although I guess that risks losing the antenna to branches...car parks don't concern me, I don't fit anyway!
How would you run the cable to the wheel carrier?
Cheers

Gutter mount brackets are readily available. These get the aerial up on the roof where it works best.
I've got one on my truck. No drilling required.
Gutter mount within reach by you at driving position .... You can pull them down when clearance is low.... From memory you're strongest signal will be to the rear left of the car( antenna at roof hight should be better signal wise all around to)

						SubscriberSimon,
The gutter mount with fold down facility works well, but if you are still keen to mount the antenna on your bumper (with an extension), suggest you look at getting a ground plane independent antenna like this ... Ground Independent Elevated Feed 6nu ll3 nu llH ILOW GainAnt enn aFO RUHFR | eBay
This avoids the issue of directionality caused by having to rely on the metal of the vehicle to act as the ground plane or electrical "Base" of the antenna.

Ground plain all the way..... To mount it on the bumper you'd have to lift it up to bonnet height still ..

Thanks everyone - looks like the folding gutter mount is probably the best way forward for me.
Thats whats great about this forum, there are always others willing to help out with advice
Cheers

I had a stainless steel vent blank made by Rijidij and mounted it there.
I'm not interested in talking to people on the moon so I just have a small one.
