    Front propshaft freeplay-is it normal?

    Hello Friends,

I have a 130 Puma (2013) and there is free play of about 20mm in the front propshaft when I turn it by hand in either direction. Is this normal? I have had the vehicle for about 3 months now and in that time I have given it a new clutch and rear diff (diff under warranty, clutch not- at only 40,000 km) and was thinking this free play doesn't seem normal, and it doesn't happen with the rear propshaft. I bought it second hand and I assume it has had a bit of a hard time prior to joining my family. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Probably fairly normal - there are a lot of splined joints in the front axle. I am guessing that when you tried this on the rear prop shaft the handbrake was on - in that case there should be virtually no slack. Even with the brake off, and the wheels chocked, there will be more on the front simply because there are more splined joints.

Thanks for that John. I like to have everything running as good as it can be and it's very helpful to have people like yourself to tell me when there is nothing actually wrong. Maybe I'm paranoid

It is normal. Both my 101 and RRC have about that sort of play in the front and they are both going fine. . 1 has 360,000KM on it and the other has 50,000KM on it and there is no noticeable difference between the play on the 2 of them.
