Puma rear 40% seat replaced with fridge

    G'day all,

I want to remove the rear 40% seats and put a fridge there instead.

As I am "Handyman Challenged", what do I need to remove them and where do I get it from?

also, is it possible that I retain the "seat frame" so I can just secure the fridge using straps?

    Cheers,

Removing them is very easy and all you need is 2 spanners or sockets each for the two sizes of nuts and bolts in use. Ones set requires someone on the outside holding a spanner in order to loosen them from the inside.

I would not advise trying to leave any part of them in the car as the space penalty would far outweigh the practicality. Just remember to replace all bolts as everything obviously open up to the outside (holes in the tub).

The best option is to buy more of the "lashing eyes" from your local 4x4 shop or fixings distributor and to use the now unused bolts to create holding points to fix things like your fridge.

    Cheers,

    Lou

Not sure about NSW, but in Qld altering the seating capacity in any way requires a mod plate (even if your lessening the capacity).

Apparently WA requires the removal of all traces of the seats (all mountings, rails and seat belts) to be legal. I must admit I've got this word of mouth only, so I'll defer if someone's got more up to date information...

    Cheers,

Being Handyman challenged (and in Sydney) , like me i suggest you get Daniel at Mulgo involved, as a fairly complex bracket/frame will be needed for the fridge to sit on. I hope to post my own out sourced efforts this week.

I concur most entirely with AndyG.

I did this modification back in April with Daniel installing the frame and shelf. You can do it yourself and I'm quite sure that he'd send you the design and measurements but if you're not a dab hand with a MIG then he can do it for you.

Qld, you have to re mod plate the car everytime you pull out or put back in a seat (idiotic rules). afaik In Nsw, you only have to do it once, up here though you can get away with it if you tell the scalies (qld transport twits) its only out on a temporary basis for the weekend. Remove the whole thing as Lou and Andy suggested and you might be able to use the mounting holes as tie down points ( did that in my last car with the child seat anchor points)
