It's a bit hot in the cabin.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and looking forward to a cracking new year,

I had a good drive yesterday in my 2012 110 from 100k's north of Winton into Brisbane. During the drive I got to experience Queensland's changing moods from very hot and dry to chilly and wet.

Between Winton and Blackall It was very hot and dry with the road doing its normal North Queensland trick of melting. I was towing my camper trailer cruising along doing 100kph at a tad over 2000rpm in 6th. A lot of heat was radiating into the cabin from what I guess was the engine/gearbox and the handbrake leaver was getting pretty warm. Then I hit some rain around Tambo/Augathella with a subsequent temperature drop and the radiating heat disappeared quite fast and the handbrake leaver cooled right down.

Now I don't tow the camper around in the summer time simply because it is to hot to camp around Isa/Gulf Country in the summer. I have never experienced this radiating heat into the cabin before when towing the camper. Is the radiating heat from the ambient air temperature or from the gearbox working to hard? At the time I was just thinking it was heat from the atmosphere and road surface especially when it cooled down with the rain and a drop in temperature.

    Cheers,

    Danial.

Pretty normal, transmission tunnels in Fenders do get hot, insulated mine and the footwells with some 3mm sticky backed insulation from rare spares. Made a good difference for noise abatement as well. If u do the same with 12mm insulation under the bonnet, it cuts the cabin noise by about 10-15dba

I'm going to take a stab in the dark without having a sneak peak under the truck. They ran the exhaust down the driver's side near the transmission tunnel instead of the passenger side?

Get a decat, centre box removal pipe and insulation and that will sort 90 percent of your problem.

    correct,

the other thing you do is go get a section of exhaust thats at least half an inch larger than the existing pipe and hae the endds of it mandrel bent to folow the curves under the foot wells and along side the trans

cut it in half so it top side shields the exhaust drill some holes in it and put some nuts and bolts into it so the nuts are on the inside edge.

place it over, tack weld the nuts to the existing exhaust, remove it all, finish weld the nuts in.

while it all cools down take the bolts out wind some more nuts onto them then put the shield back in place ,wind the bolts into the nuts and then when theyre in just tight place a sppring washer onto the b olt wit hthe nut on it, wind the bolt through the shield into the nut you welded in place and when all fo those are done wind the locking nust down onto the spring washer and viola instant heat shield,
