They're worthless brand new. Owning a Prado, Mr Spock said it best when talking to Captain Kirk about an alien blob, "It's life, Jim, but not as we know it".

On topic, congratulations Avion8, great decision. I'd love one, absolutely no reason to have one,

    a) I already own a car I'm not willing to swap, and have no need for a second one, no wife to drive my D4 whenever I want to drive the 90.

    b) Nowhere to park a second car, live in a block of units.

    c) can't afford it

If any single one of the above was not true, I reckon I'd be on the wait list and stuff the other 2 reasons.

    Value gone. POP!
Resale, at 3-4 years old Prado gx or gxl is at least $20,000 below their retail price, the $105,000 Kakadu is over $40,000 below retail ouch that's serious depreciation at 30-40%. Same year defenders are between $5,000 and $15,000 below retail which is less than 10% to almost 30%.
    Value gone again, POP!
Calpable? Lower carrying capacity in both kg(660 to defender 1050) to and bodies. POP!
To carry same bodies you must buy gxl 15-20,000 extra POP!
Towing is one thousand kg less POP!
If you spent half the price difference between the playdough and the defender there is no way any factory playdough would keep up in any serious off-road situation. POP!
Enough fantasy bubble popping , back to dreaming of a green heritage 7 seat 110.
I know it irks some but the reason a defender has such good resale compared to not just playdough but also other LR's is its ease of modifyability. This is a feature I hope the next generation doesn't lose.

We really do need a sarcasm smiley, I think you've all misjudged Bob. The ol' salt's got a quirky sense of humour, but ya ain't gunna see him driving a Prado anytime soon.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Well my mate has been given the bad news by the dealer. LR will only be sending a trickle of Heritage Defenders to OZ and he has been told he is off the list!

Maybe he could buy a plaindoe instead

Heritage 130 would be nice... in a shipping container with 100kg of silica gel for a season or three.

Hi James Hamilton, yes i too raced into the perth dealer for a heritage 110. two days ago...had a contract done -paid a $2Kdeposite and thought you beauty- today was told tat they cant get any due to most dealers in aust want to keep their limited numbers 1 or 2 allocations for themselves and to do what..resell later....i thought dealers were suppose to sell to the public-not keep vehicles themsleves. so i spent all day trying to find one somewhere in aust. i wanted to get a heritage 110 or 90...but what i understand- if it is true-I was told West aust will not be getting celebration defenders? perhaps this not true-who knows the true story?

ps: does anyone know how to list your current defender on the posts automatic..

    thanks Robbo

The cynic in me would think they, are saving them for their premium RR customers who want a toy
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
