My net is stupidly slow at the moment
By the looks of it you have a none standard turbo, probably a good thing considering how much lag the 300 Tdi's have.
If I were you I'd just pull the manifolds off your Defender engine, get yourself a new manifold gasket (cheap) and swap your exhaust manifold and inlet manifold over to the Disco motor. Save having to modify the exhaust to suit the standard 300 Tdi turbo.
You'll need to swap your turbo lines over as well
If it was set up on the Defender engine it should all swap over to the Disco engine easy as. As far as I know there is not difference between the two
Ditto with the A/C, just unbolt your old pump from the timing cover and bolt it onto the donor motor when it's in. Don't unhook the hoses without degassing the system. I like our atmosphere just the way it is![]()
The disco engine I've got here has a cast A/C mount bracket, whereas the Defender one is fabricated. I don't recall if there is a difference in the compressor itself, but if there is you'll obviously need to use the Defender mount if you're retaining the compressor that's currently on the vehicle.
If there's any sign of leaks around the oil cooler thermostat housing (near the oil filter) replace the o-rings on those connections.
The standard Defender air filter bracket mounts under one of the head bolts, so don't forget about that when you reassemble if you're throwing a new head gasket in.
