Thread: Reverse Light fuse keep blowing

Have you checked the wiring where the camera was installed to see if any tape has come off the connection? Might be a short there. Also, remove the bulb and try again - soes it still blow? I have seen bulbs blow that then short to ground. Could be something as simple as that.

Alternately you could always just drive forward...

Yes I have tried all that.
Disconnected the complete reverse light still blows.
Cut the power wire the the camera and still blows.
The second I select reverse the fuse blows.
The only thing I can think of is the reverse switch but do not know where on the gearbox it is located.

Have a look at the harness behind the light where it runs behind the plastic cover(2 screws).
Mine has signs of where it has rubbed in the past and documents show an issue was resoled after blowing fuses.
Mine looks like the conduit has melted on the exhaust at some stage also.


When you cut the camera wire was it the power feed wire or the reverse trigger wire?

If you reckon it's the switch then you've got to release the park brake lever, and electrical connecter. Then detach the gaiter from the transmission cover panel. Remove the gear shift and high / low range levers. Remove the 11 screws on the transmission cover panel. You will see the switch , tried to upload pic from my computer, but doesn't seem to want to work at the moment.

That's by the book, but you can also get to it by removing the metal plate under the cubby box. Much easier though access is tight.

Before you go getting a new switch just make sure it's screwed fully into the side of the gearbox.That way the ball actuator is pushed in fully to operate the switch when reverse is selected.
