    285/60R18 XL HELP!

I need some help and I don't trust the Tyre salesman.

I have ordered a Landy 90 & I have imported these wheels - Photo attached -(Kahn 18' 1983 defender wheel) I don't understand this "offset thing" I am like a Chick..... I bought them because they look NICE.

Tomorrow I am planning to go have Cooper LTZ 285/60R18 XL. fitted to them. Are there any Tyre buffs who can assure me this will not rub under the new Defender 90 ( or someone that can tell me with confidence this will be a problem)?

Apologies for the stupid question but getting them ready before delivery of 90 would be more convenient.

Likely to rub with a tyre that wide (depends on the offset which they don't list on their site).

Will require steering stop adjustment to prevent rubbing when turning.

You do realise these rims make your 90 a road only vehicle as they are NOT rated for offroad use!

Might want to consider fitting H/T tyres as they will give better road manners and be quieter.

    Louis,

You'll have to phone Daniel at Mulgo to get the offset of the wheel before anyone will be able to give advice. He sells them, so hopefully he knows.

A Defender has standard 33mm offset and with that width, you most probably need an offset of around 12mm to clear the cars mechanical bits on the inside, but anything more towards the negative will start to stick out the flares thus becoming illegal without aftermarket flares.

They'll fit the car pretty well in general, it will all be in the offset. Circumference and diameter is almost spot on against the stock 235/85/16 tyres.

Check the comparison on the calculator.

    Louis,

BTW your locking nut cap won't work with these, so maybe worth buying at least 4 extra nuts to take their place.

    Cheers,

    285/60R18 XLHELP!

Offset for the Kahn is +10mm

Sawtooth (factory LR option) is +30

It's going to be close packing that width in there....

Nice looking wheel, shame they're not offroad suitable.

BTW I am now questioning myself.

What Tyers would you go for? I will be doing 90% on road.

My priorities look good on a defender, so not road tyres but need road behaviour and low road noise. Not that concerned about endurance 50 000 km is fine

Umm this probably means you have five new tyres and rims for sale soon?
    Tell us more
I could use another one for the big trip, whenever that is.

Mine are the alloy with Defender embossed on one bar?, I don't think it is the boost but something slightly different, anyone?

Found it, Dual finish Alloy, mechanically the same as the boost?
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
    apologies to Socrates

Clancy's gone to Queensland Rovering, and we don't know where he are
