That sounded nasty...

SupporterWell after 20 odd hrs and quiet a few defenders, I've finally busted one.. Dodged a deer yesterday, went into a spoon drain and then head on into an embankment.. Drove out ok with a bull bar pushed into the front right gaurd, but both rear doors have slight bend behind the handle..after talking with an engineer who knows these chassis, he tells me that designers have put a weak point in the chassis just under the rear panel to take heavy impacts..not happy..I've broke its back..

SupporterYep all good thanks, hit my head on the steering wheel but no probs at all, car still drives like nothing happened..
That's a nasty one.
Unbolt everything off the bent chassis and pop it onto a new galvanised one? $$$$$$$!!
.
I used to live at Googong for a while. I had no idea there were dear running around tempting Land Rovers into ditches... damn. Sorry to hear that mate.
I reckon the suggestion to swap the chassis over to an army gal is the way to go. I'm after a good 4 sp trans and 4BDI for my 130 so if you find one, might not be a bad idea to go halvies perhaps...
I'm in the Bay now.
Well at least the air bags didnt go off
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

SupporterStandard repair for this is to get a brand new chassis from landrover and swap every thing over.. Utes insured, so will see what the cost comes in at.
Insurance is a testy subject for me at the moment. Who's it insured with, what model is it and for how much? (PM if you prefer).
Great that you are OK !
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

What would be the logic in this, the energy has already passed the drivers position?

This is why I don't ever, ever swerve to avoid animals. Brake as hard as possible, and try to hit them off-centre.
Glad you're OK
