    Checker Plate - Help

I know this has been discussed before but can anyone point me into the right direction? Who in Sydney can supply and fit Black Checker Plate - Stick On, not drilled and riveted. Unless you advise that stick on is not the way to go ??

    Hi Louis,

Never heard of "stick on" checker plate, unless you're referring to vinyl wrap? If not, link please!

Daniel at Mulgo (Expedition Centre) will be your man in NSW as he is in Mordale 23km odd from Sydney city centre...

He sells the proper aluminium bolt on stuff though.

NO **** Lou! I would never ask for Vinyl Checker plate on this site the old Real Landy owners will chase me off this site

I did not want to drill into the body panels (not yet at least) I aim to have it Stuck on some strong Bonding Glue, - somewhere on the site I read that it can be done I would prefer someone more experienced to do it - I don't want to use the new 90 as a platform for me to learn/experiment on.

I feel your pain about drilling into the wings... I had my checker plate almost 4 weeks (ordered from the UK) before I convinced myself to fit them.

I personally preferred the painted metallic grey (Stornoway) wings to the checker plate, but I've owned enough Defenders to know its pretty much a necessity to prevent dings in the top surface of the wings.

The dropped tools and kneeling on the wings when you're backside up inside the engine bay would have ruined them in any case had I not fitted the checker plate.

I suppose the glue is a good idea as long as it doesn't do more damage (trying to get it off if you change your mind) than the 7 x 6mm holes for the plates.

    Cheers,

    Lou

Yeeeh I will probably have land rover fit it and "rivet it in" - ate the end of the day, it is meant to be a work horse not a SUV>

We had our Dealer fit checker plate on guards & sides & corners.
We had no issues with the Dealer drilling the guard tops & fitting the checker plate with gaskets etc,..... as per Landrover instructions.
I've heard the LR checker plate is not as good as some, but we've had no problems with ours & it looks good, and is EXCELLENT for protecting the top of the guards.
So I wouldn't worry about drilling holes.
    Pickles.

I know what you mean about drilling holes mate!

Only had my 110 for a week before I was standing over it with a drill in my hand...

... would I do this to a $50k BMW I thought!!! OMG as I started the drill

Very happy with the result however, looks great and very practical too.

    Cheers,

    Pete.
