    Question Irritating startup noise issue

    Hi guys,

So whenever I start up my 2002 TD5 Defender I am greeted with an ear piercing beep from within the vehicle. It is definitely not coming from outside the vehicle. Initially it only came on every now and then when the key was switched to the "ON" position before startup, but was silenced as soon as the car started up.

However recently it has progressed to staying on until I reverse about 5 or so meters. I am concerned it is going to keep progressing until it just stays on while the key is in.

Is this an alarm malfunction? or could it be something fitted aftermarket that I'm not aware of given I bought the car used? Either way anyone have any idea how I can fix the issue as it is ear piercing, not just a calm little beep.

    Many thanks in advance,
    fullelove

Hi , I also have a td5 , and It has never made any of the noises you describe , ether before or after start up , Do you know if It has been fitted with a reverse bleeper ? or some other type of alarm that are still active . I'm sure It's not a standard sound , that's what I would be looking for ! If you find It let us know . good luck ...Jim

Does it have a low coolant alarm fitted?
    This could be the reason.

You know what, that may just be it. The fun of buying used and not knowing what you have. It is literally the most irritating noise ever. Will check this tonight and report my findings. Thanks guys!

So i topped up the coolant (it was slightly low) and the beep has returned to only coming on when the ignition is in the "On" position. And still only occasionally not every startup. It seems clear it is a coolant alarm, but might the alarm be a little bit faulty to be coming on like it is? I can live with it like this, as it is also much quieter than before

Sounds like and engine saver low coolant alarm to me if you look at the top radiator hose the bleed screw it will have a wire hanging off it at a guess....

I'm thinking you will need to bleed the cooling system a little prob find u have a small amount of air trapped in the top hose the beep should only be for a split second when ignition is turned on.
